The "History. Culture, Politics, Society' specialism in the History specialism of the Humanities and Social Sciences Master's degree aims to train students in research through research. The disciplinary training offered in the four periods of history (ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary) enables students to acquire a solid historical culture and to perfect their training in historical methods. As well as offering a generalist course that provides training for the profession of historian, this programme also develops three major thematic areas of particular focus: the history of written and archaeological heritage; the history of health and the environment; and political and cultural history.
The course also offers the acquisition of a variety of technical skills (linguistic, epigraphic, palaeographic) and a pre-professional internship. The course also includes research experience in the form of a dissertation, which is defended and assessed.
This master's programme is supported by three CNRS joint research units to which the teaching and research staff on the course are attached:

The second year of the History, Culture, Politics and Society programme is a continuation of the M1 programme. The programme offers research seminars on the four historical periods, specialised courses and a pre-professional placement.
It is accompanied by research practice throughout the year, with the writing of a final dissertation.
