Subject: Quality, Hygiene, Safety, Health and the Environment
Career path: Management of Technological and Occupational Risks

This degree is supported by a partnership between Avignon University and NEXTECH. It trains professionals capable of providing effective support to the management of a company or site by contributing to the risk prevention policy as part of an integrated approach.
The course offers two specialisations:
- The first focuses on the health aspects of technological risks of nuclear origin,
- the second deals with environmental impact studies: water, air, soil and waste management.

This professional degree is offered to holders of a scientific or technological baccalaureate +2 or equivalent (see Admission tab).
The course is based on an apprenticeship or professional training contract, depending on the candidate's profile.

Objectives
As key contacts for technical teams, these future middle managers will be able to develop an integrated risk prevention and management policy, i.e. :
- identify, analyse and assess occupational and technological risks ;
- implement prevention and protection measures to reduce their occurrence and impact, and measure their relevance and effectiveness;
- keep a regulatory and technical watch ;
- to implement and promote QHSSE management standards in order to encourage all staff to adopt the risk management and prevention approach.

Special features
The course, which is predominantly scientific and multidisciplinary, enables students to acquire the following skills (see also RNCP sheet 30098):
Scientific and technical skills
- Participate in the identification, assessment, prevention and reduction of occupational risks of physical and chemical origin, as well as fire and explosion risks;
- Demonstrate critical analysis and scientific rigour to propose innovative solutions with a view to continuously improving worker protection;
- be familiar with the relevant regulations and legislation (environmental law, ICPE and ERP classification, insurance law, labour law, health and safety);
- Monitor technological and regulatory developments in accordance with the QHSSE standards and regulations in force, in relation to health and safety at work and the environment;
- master the tools for managing occupational and environmental risks (prevention plan, cause tree, fault tree, OHS indicators, etc.) and be familiar with the main standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, etc.);
- communicate (including in English) by organising awareness-raising and staff training initiatives, leading working groups and taking part in CSE meetings.

Depending on the specialisation
- Nuclear Risks: assessing and optimising nuclear risks in terms of safety, in compliance with the regulations in force; the speciality consists of the theoretical and practical parts of the Radiation Protection Competent Person training course (PCR level 2 - Industry sector, Nuclear option - Order 18/2/2019) and concludes with the presentation of the certification.

- Environmental risks: understanding and assessing the impact of pollutants on the environment (air, water, soil); mastering waste treatment and recovery methods.

Organisational skills
- Leading and implementing a prevention approach adapted to these risks in compliance with legislation
- Define the most appropriate technical, human and organisational preventive actions in order to draw up the Single Document and check their effectiveness
- Work independently and show initiative

Interpersonal skills
- working as part of a team ;
- master conventional and technical English ;
- communicate, particularly in crisis situations.

Work experience in a company (34 weeks on average) - apprenticeship or professional training contract covering the training period.

Admission requirements

Audience Recruitment level : Bac + 2
Applicants must have completed 2 to 5 years of higher education. predominantly scientific or technological.
Or have 120 credits from a Licence (L1+L2), BUT (B1+B2) or BTS with a scientific or technological focus.
Either hold a 2-year higher education diploma (CNAM diploma or other) or a level 5 certification registered in the national register of professional certifications or recognised as equivalent;
Or proof of another 2-year higher education qualification (interview required).

Continuing education
The course is also open to employees and jobseekers (subject to the conditions in force).
Validation of professional experience is also possible (VAE, VAPP).

The sandwich course takes the form of an apprenticeship or professional training contract, depending on the candidate's profile. On average, the course lasts 2 weeks/2 weeks. Eligibility is decided by a joint committee after examining and ranking the applications, followed by an interview.

Job opportunities

The primary purpose of a professional degree is to enable students to enter the world of work.
Article 1 of the 2019 Licence Order The professional bachelor's degree is a national higher education diploma which confers on its holder the grade of bachelor and pursues the objective of professional integration. In view of this objective, students are not entitled to continue their studies at master's level within the meaning of article L. 612-6 of the Education Code".
However, further study is also possible.

Functions and professions
New regulatory requirements are leading to the creation of jobs at BAC+3 level in a number of industrial sectors, as well as in municipalities and local authorities. Professionals graduating with this degree are recruited in the field of safety, management and prevention of natural or industrial risks, in all types of industries (large groups or SMEs) or local authorities (regional planning, environment, energy, etc.).
Graduates have a wide range of direct employment opportunities in the following sectors:
- industry in the broadest sense, particularly chemicals, food and drink, construction and public works and transport,
- nuclear power for plant safety, radiation protection and maintenance (power plants and related upstream and downstream companies, the ITER project, ongoing dismantling programmes, waste management and reprocessing, etc.)
- the environment for safety and quality management ('environment' sector, including waste management, transport and treatment).

The jobs most closely related to the training are at middle management level: assistant engineer, senior technician. Graduates from previous years have been recruited in both the private and public sectors as :
- QHSE coordinator
- Nuclear safety or safety/environmental coordinator
- Occupational health and safety prevention officer
- Quality Safety Environment Manager
- Safety Auditor Correspondent
- Advisor or trainer in an inspection or prevention organisation


The diploma also gives access to state and local civil service competitions (categories A and B), and in particular to the professional fire brigade officer competition, ARS, DREAL, ministries, etc.)

There are two stages to registration

  1. Submission of a Pre-registration file on the NEXTECH website (from January)
  2. Submission of a definitive enrolment file on the Avignon Université website once a work-study contract has been signed.

The cost of training in alternation is paid for by the OPCOs of the host companies and the training is remunerated according to the candidate's profile (according to current grids).
