Main objective:

Mastering the principles and handling of relational databases with the
Database Management System (DBMS) PostgreSQL and its spatial version PostGIS...

The opening of the "Geographic relational database" training course is a response to several factors
socio-economic issues :
? Urbanisation and territorial dynamics: metropolisation, territorial fractures, regulation
of the market.
? Property pressure: rent controls, investment strategies, social housing.
? Explosion of geographical data: Open Data, GIS, spatial modelling with R.
? Evolving professions: expertise in spatial analysis required by local authorities and developers,
town planners.
? Spatial planning and foresight: impact of teleworking, ecological transition,
urban resilience.

Target audience:

This course is aimed at study managers, professionals or researchers dealing with
real estate issues or who want to learn about spatial analysis with R.

COURSE DESCRIPTION :

Educational programme :
Day 1 :
Presentation of the relational model and conceptual modelling
Day 2 :
Declaration of a database structure (data
Day 3 :
Querying data in a relational database (data manipulation language)
Day 4 :
import external data
Day 5 :
Handling vector spatial data in PostGIS
Evaluation

Organisation of training :

The course is organised over 6 x 3-hour sessions starting in September.

Target skills :

- Understanding the main database concepts
- Modelling the structure of a database
- Implementing a model in PostgreSQL
- Perform queries on one or more tables
- Loading different data formats
- Carrying out geomatics operations with Post GLS

Assessment procedures :

Assessment of importing and querying spatial data.
Practical exercise due at the end of the 10 days (optional)
